AJ Allmendinger paces NASCAR Cup Series practice at Charlotte Roval

Road course ace AJ Allmendinger was right at home at the top of the speed chart in NASCAR Cup Series practice at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval on Saturday. 

The 2023 Roval winner paced Cup Series practice with a fastest lap of 86.630 seconds.

Ty Gibbs, Daniel Suarez, Kyle Busch and Zane Smith rounded out the top-five, with Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, Justin Haley, Christopher Bell and Noah Gragson completing the top-10. 

Other notable practice results include Ross Chastain in 16th, Shane van Gisbergen in 17th, William Byron 20th, Chase Elliott 23rd, Ryan Blaney 24th, Tyler Reddick 25th, Bubba Wallace 27th, Joey Logano in 28th, Denny Hamlin in 30th, Chase Briscoe in 32nd and Austin Cindric in 33rd. 

Tire wear was a major talking point during the session, as some drivers experienced over four seconds of tire fall-off over the course of a run. 

Cup Series qualifying is next on truTV. The Bank of America ROVAL 400 will go green shortly after 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on USA Network, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will begin at 2:30 ET on USA Network and 2 ET on PRN. Larson is the defending Roval winner.
