Tyler Reddick pulled off a feat many in the NASCAR Cup Series garage likely thought impossible: beating Shane van Gisbergen in a qualifying session on a road course.
Reddick, who enters Sunday's race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval 29 points below the cut line for the Round of 8, snagged the pole position with a lap of 85.939 seconds, beating van Gisbergen by less than four one-hundredths of a second.

Van Gisbergen, Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher rounded out the top five, with Michael McDowell, Chris Buescher, Chase Briscoe, AJ Allmendinger and Ross Chastain completing the top 10.
Other notable qualifying results include Ryan Blaney in 11th, Bubba Wallace in 12th, William Byron in 13th, Denny Hamlin in 14th, Chase Elliott in 15th, defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano in 17th and Austin Cindric in 19th.
Allmendinger was fastest in Cup Series practice earlier Saturday afternoon.
The Bank of America ROVAL 400 will go green shortly after 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on USA Network, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will begin at 2:30 ET on USA Network and 2 p.m. ET on PRN. Larson is the defending Roval winner.
