Texans' C.J. Stroud finally has a breakout game in win over Ravens

After learning that they would be without their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens had to rely on their backup quarterback, Cooper Rush, and their defense to win the game against the 1-3 Houston Texans

That didn't happen, as the Ravens defense proved beyond any reasonable doubt that they are the worst defense in the NFL, allowing 44 points to a team that came into the game ranked as the 25th best offense (288.8 yards). The Ravens helped the Texans move to 2-3 on the season, while helping quarterback C.J. Stroud regain his confidence and get him back to the player he was in his rookie season.

C.J. Stroud torches the Ravens defense for a bounce-back game

Facing the Ravens' poor defense was all it took for Stroud to get back to looking like the player he was in his rookie season, throwing for a season-high of 244 yards and four touchdown passes, while not throwing an interception. Three of Stroud's four touchdowns came in the first half of the game, where he was 14-of-17 with 170 yards.

According to Pro Football Focus, Stroud is 44-of-55 with 478 passing yards, six touchdowns and zero turnover-worthy plays in his last two games.

Stroud also showed off his legs, with his only run of the game going for 30 yards and nearly scoring a touchdown before stepping out of bounds around the one-yard line.

A game to build off of for Stroud

After starting the season 0-3, in which he had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2-to-3, Stroud has had a good couple of games to build off of heading into their bye week. Head coach DeMeco Ryans gave Stroud his flowers for having a good game, mentioning that he had great composure and a calm demeanor throughout.

“What I saw from C.J. today was his demeanor — he was very calm, he was very under control the entire game," Houston coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He didn't get flustered.”

Playing the Seattle Seahawks two weeks from now, the Texans need Stroud to continue to find himself to put them in the best position to continue winning.
