The Miami Dolphins are officially in crisis mode.
They seemed to be in control against the Carolina Panthers, jumping out to a 17-0 lead, only to see the Panthers erase that deficit to earn a 27-24 win that dropped the Dolphins to 1-4 on the season.
Panthers running back Rico Dowdle dominated with 206 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries, and the Panthers put up 27 points and 418 total yards of offense. However, perhaps the worst part of it for Dolphins fans was hearing their head coach admit that the team simply wasn't prepared for this game.
"We thought we were prepared for this, and clearly we weren’t,” McDaniel said, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. "You don’t give up that many line of scrimmage yards unless you’re uncoordinated in certain ways. If play calls need to change for that to occur, [we will]. It can’t continue to go on like this. It’s already gone on too long.”
McDaniel reportedly entered the season on the hot seat, and while injuries haven't helped him, it seems like he's lost the team.
More than that, admitting that he failed to get the team and the coaching staff ready for a game should be the straw that broke the camel's back.
This isn't entirely on him, and the Dolphins will most likely part ways with GM Chris Grier and maybe even QB Tua Tagovailoa.
But when you fall to 1-4 and admit you didn't do your job during the week, there aren't many reasons to keep you around for much longer.
