Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle enjoyed a stellar outing as he accumulated 234 total yards from scrimmage in the club's 27-24 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
That said, Panthers players were quick to offer high praise for quarterback Bryce Young after Young delivered what became a game-winning touchdown pass with 1:59 remaining in regulation.
"Everybody wants him to just fail at this in those situations," Carolina defensive tackle Derrick Brown said, per Darin Gantt of the Panthers' website. "But I mean, the dude comes off, straight to me on the sidelines, and says, 'Go get it back for me and we'll go.' I mean, he's getting where he wants to be, man."
As recently as last week, multiple NFL evaluators made it known that they didn't believe Young would emerge as "the guy" for a Panthers side that had fallen to 1-3 on the season. The first overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft responded to such takes by completing 19-of-30 passes for 198 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against the Dolphins.
As Gantt noted in a different piece, Young also helped the Panthers tie a franchise record for the largest comeback in team history when Carolina erased a 17-point deficit on Sunday. The Panthers previously accomplished that feat on three occasions.
"He knows how to persevere," Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton added about Young. "He's a tremendous leader, and I'm just very happy he's in this locker room with me, and I get to work with him. He's a heck of a competitor. I think that that's actually across the whole team. He's definitely the kind of guy you want at the helm, and the kind of guy that just leads us all in the right direction and that attacking mentality."
As much as Young enjoyed Sunday's result, he made it clear after the win that he was ready to shift his focus to this coming Sunday's home game against the Dallas Cowboys (2-2-1). As of Monday morning, ESPN BET had the Panthers as 3.5-point underdogs for that matchup.
"It's great for these 24 hours. It's amazing," Young said about the victory over Miami. "And then when we come back tomorrow, it'll be on to the next week. Again, there's never been a lack of belief. We all know what we have, we all know what it takes to execute. It'll be great again for 24 hours, and then next week it will be the challenge to execute and do everything we can to have a good week to put ourselves in a good spot for Sunday."
