Travis Hunter reminded fans on Monday why he was the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver made the most ridiculous catch of his young career in the third quarter of his team’s Week 5 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. With defenders swarming him from all angles early, quarterback Trevor Lawrence made a desperation heave to Hunter downfield.
Hunter made a leaping catch in between two Chiefs players to complete an improbable 44-yard catch. The Colorado alum had his legs taken out by Chiefs safety Bryan Cook but still held onto the football as he hit the grass.

The slow-motion replay of the play made Hunter’s grab look even more impressive. The ball did not land cleanly into his hands. Instead, Hunter had to squeeze it between his forearms while riding Cook’s shoulders.

The 44 yards Hunter gained on his electrifying play exceeded his career-high in receiving yards (42) for an entire game. The Jaguars capped off the drive with a Lawrence rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14-14.
Jacksonville used Hunter sparingly over the first four weeks of the season. He was targeted just 21 times for 13 catches and 118 yards. It’s a safe bet that he’ll get more looks after Monday’s game.
