The Houston Texans (2-3) enter their Week 6 bye coming off a 44-10 victory over the lowly Baltimore Ravens (1-4). Houston's offense has been struggling for most of the season, but it has shown significant improvement over the last two weeks, scoring 70 points.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud had his best game of the season in Week 5 with four touchdowns, and he will look to build off of that against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 20. However, the Texans must continue to do so without running back Joe Mixon, who still has no timetable for his return.
Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million extension with the Texans in 2024 after getting traded from the Cincinnati Bengals. He has not appeared in a game this season due to a foot/ankle injury he suffered in the offseason. Caserio does not have “a particular timetable” for Mixon's return.
“You know, he’s making progress. So, I wouldn't put a particular timetable on it,” Caserio said to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. “So think over the next few, three or four weeks, probably get a little bit more information here, kind of see how he's progressing, you know, taking one day at a time. But I think once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of, you know, which way is going to go. You know, for the duration of the year.”

Mixon was the Texans' leading rusher in 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns, third on the team to Stroud (20) and Nico Collins (14).
In Mixon's absence, the Texans have gotten solid production from their backup running backs. Nick Chubb has most of the touches for Houston at running back, having 22 more carries (56) than Woody Marks (36), and is the Texans' leading rusher with 249 yards.
During their bye week, the Texans should focus on developing their passing game and building on Stroud's strong start against the Ravens. The Seattle Seahawks rank 25th in the league for passing defense (239.8 yards), per Fox Sports.
Third against the rush (83.0 yards), Chubb and Marks should practice their blocking in the pass rush, as it will be hard for them to produce against one of the better run defenses. The Seahawks also have 13.0 sacks, so blocking for Stroud should be a priority, as he's one of the most sacked quarterbacks (12) in the NFL.
