A’ja Wilson was a savage both on and off the court Friday as the Las Vegas Aces secured their third WNBA championship in four seasons.
Wilson was a force on the floor during a series-clinching Game 4 win over the Phoenix Mercury at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Ariz. The four-time MVP tallied 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the 97-86 victory en route to her second Finals MVP award.
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert was booed heavily as she presented the Aces with their championship trophy. The ESPN broadcast caught Wilson making a playful sad face as the jeers rained down on Engelbert.

Wilson also shunned Engelbert as the latter awarded the Aces star with the 2025 WNBA Finals MVP trophy.

Wilson made it clear last month that she is not a fan of Engelbert’s leadership. The Aces star previously stated that she was “disgusted” by some alleged comments the WNBA executive made about Caitlin Clark . Wilson made her statement in support of Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, who had made some scathing remarks against Engelbert.
With waning support from both players and coaches alike, it’s no surprise that Engelbert is reportedly on her way out as WNBA commissioner after holding the job for six seasons. But Engelbert herself does not sound ready to leave her post anytime soon.
