NFL Week 6 winners, losers: Rico Dowdle gets revenge on Cowboys; MVP QB performances

Now that most of the NFL's Week 6 schedule is complete, it is time to look at some of the biggest winners and losers from around the league. Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle backed up his talk against the Dallas Cowboys, while Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is playing like the MVP.

NFL Week 6 winners

Rico Dowdle, running back, Carolina Panthers. Dowdle told the Dallas Cowboys, his former team, to buckle up their chinstraps for this week because he was coming for them. They did not buckle them tight enough, because Dowdle ran all over them in Carolina's 30-27 win. He rushed for 183 yards on 30 carries while catching four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Baker Mayfield, quarterback, Tampa Bay BuccaneersIt is hard to argue against Mayfield being the MVP front-runner through the first six weeks of the season. He was sensational again on Sunday with a jaw-dropping two-play sequence in the third quarter to help change the game. His 3rd-and-14 scramble is one of the plays of the week.

Nick Herbig, Edge, Pittsburgh Steelers. In a game that featured T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett, it was Herbig who ended up making the biggest impact. He finished with two tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, a pass defense and four quarterback hits.

Ladd McConkey, wide receiver, Los Angeles Chargers. McConkey had seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, and his biggest play of the day set the Chargers up for a game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Drake Maye, quarterback, New England Patriots. The Patriots have their quarterback, and he might end up being a sleeper-contender for the MVP this season if they keep winning and he keeps playing the way he is. He threw three more touchdowns on Sunday in a win over the New Orleans Saints

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, wide receiver, Seattle SeahawksSmith-Njigba is getting his opportunity as the Seahawks' No.1 wide receiver, and he is making the most of it. He was especially good on Sunday with eight catches for 162 yards and a touchdown to help the Seahawks improve to 4-2.

NFL Week 6 losers

Aaron Glenn, head coach, New York Jets. The Jets had a horrific day passing the football, but what might have been even worse was the way head coach Aaron Glenn handled valid questions about a potential quarterback change

When you are 0-6 and just passed for minus-10 yards, any question about the starting quarterback is fair game. Nothing about this is working so far.

Kevin Stefanski's game plan for Cleveland Browns. Stefanksi went into Pittsburgh with a rookie quarterback making his second career start and passed the football 52 times. Dillon Gabriel was under pressure all day and never had a chance. The Browns' game plan was one of the big reasons why.

Evan McPherson's attempt at an NFL record. You have to feel bad for the Cincinnati Bengals kicker. Just before halftime, he appeared to make a 67-yard field goal that would have set an NFL record. The problem is that the Green Bay Packers called a timeout just before the snap, negating his kick. He missed his redo. Not having those three points would loom large in the second half.

Cooper Rush, quarterback, Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are expected to get starting quarterback Lamar Jackson back after their bye week, and they need him. Rush was benched in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams after going 11-for-19 for 72 yards and an interception.

Miami Dolphins. Just the whole thing in Miami right now. All of it. They are 1-5, their defense was unable to get a late stop again, and their starting quarterback is calling out teammates in the media

Arizona Cardinals' second-half defense. With a chance to score a big road win and erase the taste of giving away a game a week ago, the Cardinals wasted a strong start from backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett by not getting a stop in the second half against the Indianapolis Colts
