Titans HC Brian Callahan calls out Cam Ward after loss to Raiders

The Tennessee Titans dropped another ugly game on Sunday.

They trailed by as many as 17 points to the Raiders and were shut out in the first half. They only managed to put up 225 yards of offense. Growing pains are always a part of the equation with rebuilding teams, but that's not what one would expect from a team with an offensive-minded head coach.

That's why Brian Callahan, who's now 4-19 as Titans head coach, didn't sound too pleased after the game. This time, he even blamed QB Cam Ward for the offense's shortcomings.

Brian Callahan calls out Cam Ward

"I am incredibly discouraged by the outcome," Callahan said, per Pro Football Talk. "We felt good coming into the game. To not be able to perform well on offense and not be able to score any points and then lose the game is disappointing. We all gotta be better, Cam’s a part of that too. Cam’s gotta play better football as well. We gotta coach better, we gotta play better, all those things. It’s not all just him, but he is a part of it."

Truth be told, it's hard to disagree with that take. Ward completed 26-of-38 passes for 222 yards, one touchdown and one pick, but he held onto the football for way too long, taking six sacks.

His erratic decision-making has also left plenty to be desired. While a lot of that comes down to coaching, he also has to do better. So far, Ward is up to 1,101 passing yards, three touchdowns and four picks. He's completed just 55 percent of his passes, and he's lost four fumbles.

Needless to say, it's way too early to give up on him, but the Titans score the second-fewest points per game in the NFL at 13.8 points and compile the fewest total yards per game at 232.3. It seems like the head coach is losing his patience.
