The 'College basketball AP preseason No. 1 teams' quiz

For the first time in program history, the Purdue Boilermakers hold the top spot in the AP’s preseason men’s college basketball rankings.

Purdue started and finished the 2024-25 season in the No. 14 slot after finishing fourth in the Big 10 and losing at the buzzer to Houston in the Sweet 16. One reason for Purdue’s lofty ranking is the return of first-team All-American and Big 10 Player of the Year, Braden Smith.

The six-foot tall guard is a rarity in today’s college basketball landscape, preparing to play his fourth season at the same school after averaging 15.8 points and 8.7 assists-per-game as a junior last year.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. 13 teams that were ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll still held that position after the year since the poll expanded to 25 teams in 1989. With that being said, can you name every team to be ranked No. 1 in the AP preseason poll since 1989-90 can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
