New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was the subject of trade talk long before the rebuilding club fell to 1-5 on the season.
While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Olave discussed his uncertain future as rumors continue to circulate that several teams may pursue him ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
"That's part of the business, man," Olave directly said, per ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "It's been like that all year, in the offseason. Even right now, I ain't really been on social media, but I know it's cooking right now that we're 1-5. So, there's always rumors, the internet trying to always create some buzz. But I had a conversation with the people in the building, so I'm very confident."
Olave clarified in June that he wanted to remain with New Orleans "forever." However, the Saints may now feel the 25-year-old is worth more as a tradeable asset than as an on-the-field contributor if a bidding war for his services emerges.
Specifically, the New York Giants, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders are among the clubs that could be interested in acquiring him. While Olave is under contract through the 2026 season, it's unclear if his history of four reported concussions over his first three pro campaigns could impact what New Orleans would receive in return.
Olave declined to expand on the conversations he had "with the people in the building" about his situation.
"It is all over the internet, so they just talked to me and told me what was going on," Olave added about the trade rumors. "I keep that between me and [them]."
For now, Olave and the Saints will look to earn their second win of the season when they play the Chicago Bears (3-2) on Sunday. As of Friday morning, ESPN BET had the Bears as 4.5-point home favorites for that matchup.
