Trail Blazers agree to a four-year extension with key player

The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a four-year, $82M extension with Toumani Camara, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The third-year forward has been a revelation for the Blazers after coming over from Phoenix in the deal that brought Deandre Ayton to Portland. He averaged 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals for the Blazers last year while being named Second Team All-Defense.

Charania notes that Camara was ninth in total steals last season and one of seven players ever to record 100 steals and 50 blocks in a season.

Camara was the No. 52 overall pick in the 2023 draft after spending four years in college, two with Georgia and two with Dayton. In his final season, he averaged 13.9 PPG and 8.6 RPG. His shooting improvement, having gone from a 30.7% career college three-point shooter to knocking down 37.5% last season, allowed him to maximize his defense impact last year.

Bobby Marks of ESPN notes that Camara’s $2.4M team option for 2026-27 has been replaced with the first year in this extension, which is a slight discount from the $87M that was his max offer.

Yossi Gozlan of the Third Apron tweets that Camara’s extension leaves enough luxury tax space in 2026-27 for a potential Shaedon Sharpe extension.
