Insider believes Cowboys could make multiple moves at trade deadline

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a very intriguing position as the 2025 NFL trade deadline quickly approaches.

Dallas is 3-3-1 after beating the Washington Commanders this past weekend. That's not a record that'll light the world on fire, and to that point, the Cowboys are currently seeded 10th in the NFC.

With that said, they're second-place in the NFC East behind the 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles, who are the defending Super Bowl champions but don't look like the dominant team we've seen over the past few seasons.

The point is, owner Jerry Jones would be right to believe that this team has a chance to make a run deeper into this season, which means he very well could make a big move at the trade deadline. In fact, Jon Machota of The Athletic believes the Cowboys have the capital to be able to make more than one move if the mood strikes Jones right. If the Cowboys do make a trade at the deadline, Machota believes Jones will have to address the defense.

"Dak Prescott is playing at an MVP level with an elite group of weapons around him in CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jake Ferguson, Javonte Williams and KaVontae Turpin. If they all stay healthy, there’s potential to be the NFL’s best offense," Machota wrote.

"The defense, on the other hand, is arguably the league’s worst. And while linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will return in the next few weeks, that’s not enough. More help is needed on that side of the ball at all three levels. At least one defensive addition needs to be made. Trading Micah Parsons gave Dallas plenty of draft picks and salary-cap space. The Cowboys have everything needed to make a notable move … or two."

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have the assets to be aggressive at the trade deadline

Dallas' offense is putting up 390.6 yards per game, which leads the NFL. The Cowboys' 31.7 points per game are second in the NFL behind only the upstart Indianapolis Colts. In the meantime, the defense is giving up 401.6 yards per game, which is dead last in the NFL. They're also allowing 29.4 points per game, which is the third-worst mark in the league.

If the Cowboys want to make a run at the playoffs, Jones will absolutely have to address the defensive side of the football.

He traded away his team's best defensive player, and arguably the best defensive player in the league, before the season began. Micah Parsons is playing for the Green Bay Packers for the foreseeable future.

That trade did give Jones a nice war chest to play around with, though. Alongside defensive tackle Kenny Clark, the Cowboys got back first-round picks for 2026 and 2027 from the Packers.

Those are more than likely going to be late first-round picks if Parsons does indeed make the Packers a Super Bowl contender, and it appears like he's well on the way.

Jones may be tempted to hold onto the picks and use them when the time comes, but he does at least have more options than many now here at the deadline.

If he wants to make a big defensive trade...or two...at the deadline, he has a stacked deck of cards at his disposal.
