Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and his team notched a big win on Saturday, and he was more than happy to revel in it a little bit.
The Rebels moved to 7-1 on the year with a 34-26 win over the Oklahoma Sooners at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla. on Saturday. Kiffin was in a jovial mood after the win, as he was actually trash-talking Oklahoma defensive lineman David Stone at the start of his postgame interview with ESPN’s Molly McGrath.
“You’re a little quieter now than before,” Kiffin said to Stone. “This guy yelled at me during the game like five times how great they were and we can’t score on ’em.”

Asked about the interaction after the game, Kiffin said it was nothing personal and that he had not sought Stone out to rub in the victory.
“That’s just me. He was talking the whole game to me,” Kiffin told Eli Lederman of ESPN. “I did a good job, I felt, of not talking back. He kept telling me, ‘you ain’t going to score’ and all this. I didn’t go try to find him. He was just walking by. That’s just kind of me.”
Kiffin is nothing if not authentic. This is not even the first time we’ve seen him talk trash to an opponent after a win, though at least in the other case it was his daughter’s boyfriend. In this instance, Kiffin felt the desire to finish what Stone had started.
Stone was a five-star recruit for the Sooners in 2023, and the Rebels were not among the finalists to land him. This truly was a spur-of-the-moment thing for Kiffin, and it is the exact sort of behavior that makes him such a polarizing figure.
Kiffin has every right to be pleased. His Rebels are now 7-1, and with a fairly forgiving schedule down the stretch, it is entirely plausible that they might win out.
