Three dream targets for the Broncos to pursue before trade deadline

The Denver Broncos (5-2) are chasing down their first AFC West division title in a decade.

For nine straight seasons, it’s been Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs cruising their way to win the division, first led by Alex Smith and now Patrick Mahomes.

While it's been a difficult run for the Broncos and their fans, last season saw a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015 under rookie Bo Nix, and in 2025-26, they have their sights set even higher.

Through seven weeks, it is in fact Denver that holds a slight cushion atop the division, a half game ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) and one game up on the aforementioned Chiefs (4-3).

That feeling of looking down on the Chargers and Chiefs in the standings feels nice for now, but everyone knows it’s far from over, and with the trade deadline looming, the Broncos need to be aggressive in improving their roster.

According to CBS insider Jonathan Jones, they are doing just that, specifically trying to find more weapons for Nix in the passing game.

Given that update, let’s dive into three dream trade targets for George Paton and the Broncos to go after in the coming weeks.

Garrett Wilson

No team in the NFL has had a more disastrous season than the New York Jets (0-7). The only bright spot has been star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who has remained productive through it all.

The 25-year-old is one of the most physically talented wideouts in football, who needs to go somewhere else to fully unleash that skill set. Yes, he signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets this summer, but you’d have to think that the constant losing and dysfunction in New York will boil over at some point.

Denver has their contested catch deep threat in Courtland Sutton; a guy like Wilson would be perfect as a safety blanket for Nix, working all areas of the field.

Kyle Pitts

It’s crazy to think that Kyle Pitts is in Year 5 already, but here we are. The highest drafted tight end in NFL history (fourth overall, 2021) has fallen off the map after a tremendous rookie season, though we’ve seen glimpses of his raw talent in 2025-26.

The stats may not jump off the paper, but Pitts is having his second-most-productive year as a pro, evidently still possessing the tools to be a big-time weapon when given the opportunity. Atlanta may be hesitant to part with such a high draft pick, but if they aren’t going to use him, then a team like Denver should be all-in on trying to acquire a guy they could feature in their offense.

Sean Payton loves having a good tight end, so it has to be irking him how little production they’ve gotten from the position. That's something Pitts could change.

Chris Olave

Sticking in the NFC South, we finish off with wide receiver Chris Olave. The New Orleans Saints (1-6) have stated they don’t plan on trading him, but given their current situation and future outlook, teams will likely continue to call.

Olave, like Wilson, is another uber-talented Ohio State product who just hasn’t been used properly due to a variety of factors. He’s soon going to need a new contract, but that’s something the Broncos will be able to afford as the 25-year-old looks to continue to prove he can stay healthy.

A Sutton-Olave duo would be another great mix of abilities to provide Nix with two legit number one wide receivers that bring different skill sets to the table.
