Spurs rookie guard Dylan Harper has already made NBA history

Victor Wembanyama may steal the headlines, but he's far from the only young NBA star in San Antonio. He wasn't even the Spurs player who made history on Sunday.

Rookie Dylan Harper, 19, showed off his versatility in the Spurs' 118-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets, and by doing so, he also became the youngest guard in league history to ever post a game with at least 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and zero turnovers.

Harper scored exactly 20 points, with seven coming in the fourth quarter, brought down six boards, registered eight assists and even sprinkled in a pair of steals against the Nets.

Dylan Harper just barely beat the old record

Harper's performance broke the previous record set by Andrew Wiggins when he was also 19 (but 82 days older) back in 2019 while he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Dylan Harper is part of young core of recent draft picks in San Antonio

In an effort to improve on a roster that already included Wembanyama, 2024 first-round pick Stephon Castle and De'Aaron Fox, the Spurs drafted Harper, the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, with the second overall pick in this year's NBA Draft.

Prior to being selected by San Antonio, Harper helped put Rutgers on the college basketball map based on his play in his lone season in the Big Ten.

Harper shot 48.4% from the field and 33.3% from long range while averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in college.

However, with other top rookies like Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey, Harper may have to continue reaching a historic level of play on a nightly basis if he hopes to match what Wiggins achieved as a rookie a decade ago — being named Rookie of the Year himself.
