The Arizona Cardinals fell to 2-5 on the season as starting quarterback Kyler Murray missed back-to-back games due to a lingering foot injury.
It sounds like Murray should be good to go for Arizona's "Monday Night Football" matchup at the Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1).
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon revealed on Thursday that he is preparing for Murray to start against the Cowboys. However, Gannon also acknowledged that Murray will need to show he's "fully healthy" to get the nod for the Dallas game.
The Cardinals began the season with two straight victories but haven't notched a win since. They endured a frustrating 27-23 home loss to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 19 before Arizona had its bye.
Backup Jacoby Brissett started in place of Murray for Arizona's last two defeats. According to Pro Football Reference, Brissett completed 52-of-80 (65 percent) pass attempts for 599 yards with four touchdowns and one interception over his pair of starts.
Meanwhile, Murray began Thursday ranked 24th among qualified players in the NFL with a 44.1 adjusted QBR and 22nd with an 88.6 passer rating this season. Across his five outings, he tossed six touchdown passes and three interceptions.
In an article published Thursday morning, ESPN's Bill Barnwell suggested that the Cardinals "should probably" acquire future draft picks for movable players ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline. That said, Arizona punting on the campaign could spark the beginning of the end of Murray's time with the organization.
Gannon sounds confident his club will ignore the outside noise and come out of the break ready to take it to Dallas at AT&T Stadium.
"You start playing games and the train's rolling, I think for everybody," Gannon added about his players. "They're rested, and it looks a little bit different, so it was very beneficial."
As of Thursday afternoon, ESPN BET had the Cardinals as 2.5-point road underdogs against the Cowboys. Perhaps that line will change if Gannon confirms that Murray is starting on Monday night.
