A previous update hinted that the Washington Commanders (3-5) would have starting quarterback Jayden Daniels back in the lineup for their "Sunday Night Football" game versus the Seattle Seahawks (5-2). Daniels missed Washington's Week 8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with a right hamstring injury.
While speaking with reporters on Friday, head coach Dan Quinn gave Commanders fans news they wanted to hear ahead of the weekend.
"Jayden will be back and we’re all pumped for that," Quinn revealed, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "He’s just got a unique way about him, elevates the others as we’re going through things. It’s hard to defend — two plays that could take place, he gets outside, running and passing. So, really pumped to have him back."
Injury setbacks sidelined Daniels for three of Washington's first eight games this season. Backup Marcus Mariota went 1-2 over his three starts, and he most recently tossed a pair of interceptions in the Commanders' ugly 28-7 loss at the Chiefs on Monday night.
Meanwhile, Pro Football Reference stats show that Daniels will enter the weekend ranked 20th among qualified players in the NFL with a 50.9 adjusted QBR and 14th with a 97.7 passer rating on the season. According to StatMuse, only five quarterbacks have rushed for more yards than Daniels (211) this season. Each of those signal-callers appeared in at least seven games over the campaign's first eight weeks.
"We pushed him a little more than others," Quinn added about testing Daniels' health after the "Monday Night Football" defeat against the Chiefs. "Just the short week for him was the same as for the other guys, so we wanted to hit top speeds and go for it. So, yes, I think he definitely — and it was good to see him running, throwing. He really looked like himself."
Shortly after Quinn confirmed that Daniels will be Washington's QB1 on Sunday night, ESPN BET had the Commanders as 2.5-point underdogs against the Seahawks.
