Bill O'Brien lashes out at reporter, might be feeling pressure amid Boston College's ugly season

Things aren't going great for the Boston College Eagles in 2025, and head coach Bill O'Brien is feeling the pressure.

He, of course, isn't going to say that. In fact, when snapping at a reporter on Tuesday, O'Brien said the complete opposite.

Bill O'Brien lashes out at reporter

O'Brien was asked on Tuesday if he had a message to the Boston College fan base, as the Eagles are 1-8 and riding an eight-game losing skid. The reporter said that he had heard from Boston College fans who had expressed being "down."

O'Brien didn't like that idea. Not at all.

“I’m glad you’re down. I’m not down, nobody’s down. We’re fighting, we’re competing,” O’Brien said (h/t On3). “It’s the second year of this program. You always come in here with these down questions. Once a month or something like that you come in here with these down questions. I’m not down. I don’t know what year you graduated from BC, but this is a program that we’re building. Nobody here is down. We’re positive. We’re going to show up and play our a-ses off against SMU. You can go out there in your dark-clouded world and do what you want to do, but we’re not down. The sun is up, and we’re fighting. That’s my message to the fans.”

Ironically, O'Brien accused the reporter of living in a "dark-clouded" world, while a simple question caused him to fly off the handle like this.

Bill O'Brien's time at Boston College has been terrible so far

The problem with the line about building the program is that if there's no discernible positive results from the effort, what does Boston College and O'Brien have to show for it? O'Brien is building is a program that has gone 8-14 in almost two full seasons with him at the helm.

The Eagles have lost eight in a row, and with SMU, No. 17 Georgia Tech and a Syracuse team that beat Clemson earlier this season on the schedule, there's a real possibility that BC finished this season at 1-9.

That certainly can't be a cheerful and "sunny" thought for fans of the program, but the cold, hard truth about O'Brien's tenure so far is pretty gloomy.
