Johnson, the co-owner of LEGACY Motor Club, will compete in the June 21 race at Naval Base Coronado, the first NASCAR street race in the San Diego area. Naval Base Coronado is situated roughly a half-hour from Johnson's hometown of El Cajon, California.
"To come back home, compete in front of my community, the military, my family, and friends, and do it with Carvana and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, this is one of those full-circle experiences I will never forget," Johnson said in a press release. "It’s a lifelong dream."
Johnson, who turned 50 in September, is a veteran of 700 Cup Series starts and an 83-time Cup Series winner. He retired from full-time competition at the end of the 2020 season, but has raced on a part time basis with LEGACY Motor Club since 2023. He made two starts in 2025, finishing third in the Daytona 500.
The rest of Johnson's 2026 schedule is not yet known, but fans will get to see the legendary driver compete at least once, and in a special race at that.
