The New York Giants will soon begin searching for a new head coach after they fired Brian Daboll on Monday, and you will probably never guess who longtime ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks the replacement should be.
Orlovsky spoke about the Giants' head coach situation during Monday's edition of "NFL Live" from Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The former NFL quarterback was asked which candidates New York should keep an eye on, and he said his top choice would be Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
"The number one name that I would pay attention to if I was the Giants is what happens in Cleveland with Kevin Stefanski. If I could hand-pick a guy, it would be Stefanski," Orlovsky said. "He's an outstanding coach, a two-time Coach of the Year. I understand people in Cleveland are like, 'This guy can't coach.' There's a lot of empirical data that would say otherwise."
Orlovsky noted that the Giants have historically thrived under hard-nosed coaches like Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin, and most people would not compare Stefanski's style to the aforementioned Super Bowl champions. Still, Orlovsky says Stefanski would be No. 1 on his list.
"I would go Kevin Stefanski. I would go Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator of the Chargers. I would entertain Jon Gruden and maybe Matt Nagy, but I would pay attention to see what's going on in Cleveland," Orlovsky said.

Giants fans probably would not be thrilled about the idea of Stefanski becoming their team's next head coach. The 43-year-old is in his sixth season with the Browns, and the team is almost certainly going to miss the playoffs for the second straight year. Cleveland is 2-7 after finishing 3-14 last year.
The Browns have not been able to find a franchise starting quarterback under Stefanski. Orlovsky seems to think that the Giants have found theirs in Dart, so Stefanski might not have to deal with that issue if he were to be hired in New York.
Stefanski has an overall record of 42-51 in Cleveland. As Orlovsky mentioned, he has won NFL Coach of the Year twice and has led the team to the playoffs two times. If the Giants want to prioritize experience, Stefanski has plenty of it.
