If you don't know how to beat the Georgia Bulldogs, consider contacting someone who has.
On Saturday, the No. 5 Bulldogs (8-1, 6-1 SEC) host the No. 10 Texas Longhorns (7-2, 4-1 SEC) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has said he's seeking tips from his friend, Alabama Crimson Tide QB Ty Simpson, ahead of the clash. The Crimson Tide passer confirmed that on Tuesday.
"Arch has a loud mouth, huh?" Simpson said, via Joe Gaither of Alabama Crimson Tide on SI. "No, that's my guy, right? We talk weekly, not just about ball, but how each other's doing. He's a really good friend of mine."
To return the favor, Manning is offering Simpson advice about facing the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners, whom the Crimson Tide hosts on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The Texas QB finished 21-of-27 passing for 166 yards and one TD in a 23-6 Week 7 win over Oklahoma, while the Alabama QB completed 24-of-38 passes for 276 yards in a 24-21 Week 5 win over Georgia.
"I know he played — who did Texas play before us? — They played somebody and we had talked before, and of course, the Red River Rivalry, and it was a good game. So, I asked him a couple of questions, and he asked me a couple of questions about Vanderbilt and about Georgia. Just quarterback etiquette and talking to one another about, 'Hey, what did you see? What did they do here? And just about plays and fronts in general. Just stuff that we talk about, not just as friends, but quarterbacks as well."
Perhaps Simpson's advice will help Manning be better prepared for Georgia this season. In a 30-15 home loss to the Bulldogs last season, he briefly replaced a benched Quinn Ewers but completed 3-of-6 passes for 19 yards and lost a fumble. The QB played just two snaps in a 22-19 overtime loss to the Bulldogs in the 2024 SEC Championship game, rushing for five yards on one carry.
Texas last beat Georgia in the 2019 Sugar Bowl, when former Longhorns QB Sam Ehlinger helped lead the team to a 28-21 victory. That would make an upset on Saturday an even bigger win for Manning. And for that, he would owe Simpson a huge thank you.
