Travis Hunter entered the season as one of the most hyped prospects of all time.
Given his ties to Deion Sanders and his ability to dominate at both wide receiver and defensive back, the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't hesitate to give up a massive haul to trade up and get him with the No. 2 pick this year.
Fast forward to today, and he's going to miss the remainder of the season after just seven games played due to a knee injury. However, judging by his numbers, that might not move the needle for his team at all, and that's even sadder.
Hunter was penciled in as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 2 defensive back in his class. He finished the year with 28 receptions on 45 targets for 298 receiving yards and one touchdown. He didn't score until his last game. He only had one game with 100+ yards, and he only topped 50 receiving yards twice.
Things weren't much better on the other side of the field. He logged 15 total tackles, had three passes defensed and forced one fumble. He played a total of 489 snaps during his rookie season: 324 on offense, 162 on defense and three on special teams. He failed to make an impact on either side of the field.
Scouts were concerned about Hunter's eagerness to be a full-time two-way player, given that he would have to shut down the best wide receivers in the game while also going against the best defensive backs in the league. Some were worried that his body wouldn't be able to endure that type of wear and tear, either.
Now, after just seven games, both of those hypotheses were proved to be right. Not only was he an average player at best on both offense and defense, but he couldn't even finish the season on the field.
