Does Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp view facing Rams as a revenge spot?

For the first time in his NFL career, wide receiver Cooper Kupp will face the Los Angeles Rams when the 7-2 Seattle Seahawks play at the 7-2 Rams in a battle for first place in the NFC West standings this coming Sunday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Kupp addressed whether or not he's heading into Sunday's contest with revenge on his mind.

How Cooper Kupp is treating Rams game

"It's another football game," Kupp insisted, per Brady Henderson of ESPN. "You get out there, play your game. I love these guys. I love so many of the guys over there. But at the end of the day, you've got to go play a football game. So that's going to be what it is. Try to treat this the same as any other game. Go out there and be able to lock in and do your job one play after the next, take that play-by-play mindset. Same as usual."

Kupp featured for the Rams from when they made him a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft up until he was released this past offseason. He later said he didn’t have "a ton of clarity" from the Rams regarding why they moved on from him. Los Angeles essentially replaced Kupp by signing Davante Adams in March.

"I was able to have some conversations in private with people in the organization to try to get to that point," Kupp said about the "clarity" comment. "It was important. It was important enough for me to reach out and try to get that. I'm glad to be in that place. I'm looking forward to being able to see some people pregame, give them a hug, and then when it's time to go, it's time to go."

Cooper Kupp reflects on Rams tenure

Kupp was named the Super Bowl LVI Most Valuable Player for his efforts in helping the Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in February 2022. However, injuries limited him to 33 regular-season games over the following three campaigns. Despite how his time with the Rams ended, Kupp is grateful for all he experienced with the organization.

"I'm obviously so thankful for my time there," he added during his comments. "Incredible experience. Built so much with just the fans, with the guys I was able to play with. Nothing but love for that city. But like I said, you've got to be able to lock in for the game and what's ahead of you. So I think it'll be fun. I'm excited to go out there. This is a real good football team, a real good football team and presents some great challenges for us. Excited to go out there and compete."

As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Seahawks as 3.5-point road underdogs against the Rams. Perhaps Kupp will be able to leave his former team with some regrets by the time he walks out of SoFi Stadium. Over his first eight games with the Seahawks, Kupp tallied 26 receptions on 35 targets for 367 yards and a touchdown.
