49ers QB Brock Purdy gives update heading into return vs. Cardinals

All indications are pointing to Brock Purdy returning to the field for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11 of the 2025 NFL season.

Purdy has been injured since Week 1, though he hasn't missed every game since then. He injured his toe in San Francisco's 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks, which caused him to miss the next two games.

He returned in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was shut down for the next six games after reaggravating that toe in a 26-21 loss.

Heading into Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals, both Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan have confirmed that he will be back in action after the extended time off.

Purdy also gave an update on how he's feeling.

"I feel really good, feel healthy and excited to be back and ready to go and lead the guys," Purdy said, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "I'm really excited about this week. It's been a good week so far. ... Obviously we've got to finish out strong this week, but feel really good."

Interestingly, Shanahan admitted that Purdy may not have been fully ready to go for that game against Jacksonville that saw him re-injure himself. He said that Purdy was "a little off".

The vibes are much different now, and it's worth noting that he's had plenty of time off and never had to have surgery. In fact, the 49ers never even placed Purdy on injured reserve because they wanted him to keep testing the injury out in practice to see the response.

"I had a turf toe variation," Purdy explained. "But from multiple sources and doctors and everything, we looked at it, and they said there's no need for surgery."

49ers excited to get Brock Purdy back on the field

The 49ers turned to former first-round pick Mac Jones as a replacement for Purdy. Jones has gone 5-3 this season as a starter and he's been one of the better quarterbacks in the league. So far, he's thrown for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns compared to six interceptions.

Jones has been great for the 49ers, but they do seem excited to get Purdy back into the swing of things.

Tight end George Kittle, specifically, seems eager to reconnect with the former "Mr. Irrelevant" of the 2022 NFL Draft.

"I've played with Brock for several years now and won a lot of football games, caught a lot of passes from him, so I think that will get going pretty fast," Kittle said. "I feel like me and Mac just started rolling, so I'm just happy that we have two very talented quarterbacks who can both sling the ball. [I'm] just looking forward to playing with Brock again, though, because I thoroughly enjoy just his energy and his leadership out there, so just looking forward to playing with him again."
