After firing Brian Daboll earlier this week, the New York Giants have an opening at head coach. Given his connection to the franchise as a former Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator (and a six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach with the New England Patriots), it was only natural that current North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick would get mentioned as a possibility.
Well, according to Belichick himself, you can stop mentioning him.
Belichick released a statement on Friday night saying that while he has great respect for the Giants organization and its ownership, he has not and will not be pursuing NFL head-coaching jobs.

Belichick ended up at North Carolina after getting passed over in the head-coaching hiring cycle following his departure from the Patriots. The 2025 season is his first year in Chapel Hill, and it has been a tremendous disappointment and has been filled with controversy and embarrassing moments.
Given that, it still seems possible that he would probably prefer to jump to an NFL job at some point. The question is whether or not an NFL team would want to hire him at this point in his career, especially given how disappointing his New England tenure was following the retirement of Tom Brady and how poorly the North Carolina experience has gone.
The Giants' job should be an attractive one, given the big market and the fact that they seem to have a young quarterback in Jaxson Dart. It just does not seem to be Belichick who will be taking it.
