Donovan Mitchell continues torrid start as Cavaliers beat Bucks

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell's red-hot start to the 2025-26 season continued Monday in a 118-106 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The six-time All-Star scored a game-high 37 points on 14-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. It was Mitchell's third consecutive game with at least 30 points and eighth in 13 games this year.

Mitchell, who entered Monday averaging 30.4 points per game, wasted no time getting started against the Bucks. He sunk a mid-range jumper less than a minute into the game, then hit a step-back three to trim an 11-point Milwaukee lead with 2:32 remaining in the opening quarter.

Mitchell's handles and attacks to the rim were even stronger. His euro-step was unguardable, and he also went over Kyle Kuzma with a windmill move before draining a floater, a play Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony highlighted during the Peacock halftime show.

"That's something he works on every single day," Anthony said.

Mitchell also had no problem finding teammates, passing to a cutting Jarrett Allen for a dunk early in the first quarter. Late in the fourth with the Cavs up 10, 114-104, Mitchell drove to the basket before dumping the ball off with a no-look pass to center Evan Mobley, who finished the possession with an uncontested dunk.

Cleveland was on the cusp of greatness last year, finishing the regular season first in the Eastern Conference at 64-18 before falling in the second round of the playoffs amid mounting injuries. Through his first 13 games, Mitchell looks like a man on a mission. The NBA season is a marathon, not a sprint, but Mitchell is proving early on to be up to the task.
