Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon sends message to fans amid job-security rumors

Whispers about whether or not the Arizona Cardinals could embrace a franchise reset during the upcoming offseason hovered over the club before it fell to 3-7 via an ugly 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers (7-4) on Sunday.

While speaking with reporters on Monday, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon sent a strong message to fans amid yet another losing season for the organization.

Jonathan Gannon asks for support from Cardinals fans

"Stick with us," Gannon said to Cardinals supporters, per Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic. "We'll get it turned around. ...We'll get it done."

A recent report indicated that the Cardinals will give Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort "a chance to stick around and pick their own" quarterback in 2026. Both Gannon and Ossenfort joined the Cardinals months after the franchise signed signal-caller Kyler Murray to a five-year extension worth $230.5M with $160M guaranteed in July 2022.

The first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray has no career postseason wins on his NFL resume. He is currently on injured reserve due to a lingering foot issue and is not expected to regain the starting job before Week 18 wraps up.

That said, the Cardinals have gone 15-29 under Gannon and Ossenfort. History suggests Gannon may need to pick up at least a couple more wins over the season's final seven weeks to hold onto his job beyond January 2026.

Jonathan Gannon addresses job-security rumors

"Not controllable for me," Gannon responded when asked how he's handling rumors about his uncertain future. "I didn't hire myself. I'm not going to fire myself. So seriously, I know it comes up. That's the business we're in. If you don't want to be in that business, we laugh, we joke, go work somewhere else. I'm going to control the controllables for myself. Come to work and do the best job that I can and try to get our team in a position to win a game."

The Cardinals will next have a chance to win a game when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) on Sunday. As of Tuesday morning, ESPN BET had Arizona as a 2.5-point home underdog for that contest.
