Saints QB Tyler Shough reveals 'super helpful' advice he received from Drew Brees

If former New Orleans Saints quarterback and current NFL on Fox analyst Drew Brees ventured into a restaurant in New Orleans this weekend, he likely wouldn't have to pay for his meal. Such are the perks of being arguably the greatest player in franchise history.

Brees will serve as the color analyst for Sunday's matchup between the Saints (2-8) and the Atlanta Falcons (3-7) in the Caesars Superdome (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox), which just so happens to be the first home start of current Saints quarterback Tyler Shough's career.

Shough earned his first win as New Orleans' starting quarterback against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 9 and has the chance to beat another division rival on Sunday.

During a news conference on Wednesday, Shough explained what Brees told him during a conversation earlier in the season.

What Drew Brees told Tyler Shough

"I talked to him a couple weeks ago, whenever I was still in a backup role," Shough said. "Just kind of talked to him about his mindset through his journey. I kind of talked to him more about his time with the Chargers, and I wanted to hear how he developed into who he was here.

"We talked about his daily routine and process. He had a lot of great things and insight. It was really cool to just be able to pick his brain. Everything he kind of told me resonated whether I was the starter or not. Having the opportunity shortly thereafter to roll into was really cool. He was super helpful."

The Saints certainly wouldn't mind a Brees-esque performance from Shough on Sunday as they look for back-to-back wins and continued improvement from their rookie quarterback.
