Takeaways from No. 21 Arkansas' dominant win over Jackson State

No. 21 Arkansas (5-1) ran away from Jackson State (0-5) in a 115-61 win on Friday evening inside Bud Walton Arena. Here are the four biggest takeaways from Friday’s game.

Hogs start slow, but Billy Richmond provides an early spark

The game was tied at seven at the first media timeout, but Arkansas guard Billy Richmond III — as he often does — provided a spark. Richmond threw down consecutive dunks and assisted on another in the midst of an 11-0 Arkansas run that blew the game open before the second media timeout.

Meleek Thomas has lowest output of season, but that doesn’t stop Hogs’ scoring onslaught

Meleek Thomas had a career-low 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field on Friday, but Arkansas had plenty of scoring to go around. Thomas didn’t break into double figures until there were fewer than 11 minutes to play in the game on a night where seven Razorbacks broke into double figures and scored the most points of the John Calipari era.

Thomas had to bail Arkansas out against Winthrop on Tuesday, but got to take things relatively easy to start the weekend.

Malique Ewin shows out

After playing a combined 15 minutes in Arkansas’ wins over Samford and Winthrop, Florida State transfer Malique Ewin had his best game in a Razorback uniform so far on Friday. Ewin scored 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, including a make on his only three-point attempt and a 4-4 mark from the foul line in 14 minutes of action.

Another scuffle takes center stage

Sophomore Karter Knox was solid for Arkansas on Friday, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. But a scrum under the basket with 9:29 to go involving Knox and Jackson State’s Cael Jones brought back memories of the brawl that nearly cost Arkansas the game against Winthrop on Tuesday.

The frustration of Calipari and his staff was clear after the scuffle, though Knox remained on the floor after receiving a technical foul.

Arkansas has five days to rest before taking on No. 5 Duke on Thanksgiving in Chicago.
