LSU reportedly preparing massive offer for Lane Kiffin as decision looms

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is the biggest name in the current college football hiring cycle, and LSU is the team most connected with trying to lure him away. Not only is Kiffin's decision on his future looming, but LSU is reportedly preparing to present him with a massive offer that goes well beyond his own personal compensation.

LSU preparing massive contract and NIL offer for Lane Kiffin

According to a report from Yahoo's Ross Dellenger on Friday night, LSU officials are finalizing an offer that could at least tie Kiffin for the highest-paid head coach in college football.

The offer, which has not been finalized, could be as much as $90 million over seven years.

The biggest factor in the reported offer, however, could be the promise of significant NIL roster commitments that could exceed $25 million.

Dellenger says the NIL portion could be the most important determining factor for Kiffin.

This report also comes on the same day Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said an announcement on Kiffin's future will come on Nov. 29 following the team's annual Egg Bowl game against Mississippi State.

All of this seems pretty ominous for Ole Miss if it had any hopes of keeping Kiffin.

Announcing the exact day a decision will be made without also having a new contract extension in place seems like the school knows what is coming. Especially if LSU is preparing that sort of offer with that sort of NIL commitment.

Kiffin has been at Ole Miss for six years and helped turn the program into a national power. He has won at least 10 games in three consecutive seasons (and four of the past five seasons) and is currently up to No. 6 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. As long as they do not lose to their in-state rivals next week, there is a good chance a playoff berth will be on the way for them.

That success is what makes him such a hot candidate for job openings in LSU and Florida. Both SEC schools are in the market for a high-profile coach, and especially LSU following the Brian Kelly experience.

LSU seems like the far more likely destination for him, not only due to the money, but also due to the fact that it seems like an opportunity for immediate success.
