With the New York Giants parting ways with head coach Brian Daboll, it didn't take long before people mentioned UNC football HC Bill Belichick as a potential replacement.
Belichick has the resume and the ties to the organization. However, the legendary head coach — or his camp — soon released a statement claiming that they weren't going to pursue any opportunities in the NFL and that they were only focused on Wake Forest — a game they lost 28-12. Now, a report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk revealed that the Giants were never interested in him, and it had plenty to do with his better half.
"The ongoing coverage of Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson by the New York Post is one of the many reasons for the Giants’ complete lack of interest in the possibility of hiring Bill Belichick to coach the team," Florio wrote. "While the Giants hiring Belichick likely wouldn’t have happened anyway, the Giants have no interest in hiring a coach who has become a lightning rod for relentless coverage due to his relationship with Hudson."
Given the many negative reports that have surfaced about Hudson, her grip over Belichick's empire and the negative impact it may have had on the coach's entourage, the Giants simply didn't want any additional distractions. The Tar Heels have now clinched a losing record in Belichick's first season in charge of the program, so it's not like the numbers did him any favors, either.
