How Browns' Shedeur Sanders impressed Super Bowl champion QB with play in first regular-season start

Before rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders helped the Cleveland Browns earn a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in his first regular-season start this past Sunday, he endured a rough regular-season debut during Cleveland's 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 16.

During a recent chat with Ryan Gaydos of Fox News Digital, one-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller and current NFL analyst Trent Green shared why he was impressed with the way Sanders bounced back from the outing against Baltimore.

Shedeur Sanders responded well to bad game vs. Ravens

"The fact that he was able to come back off of that performance he had last week where he was 4-of-16, it was a bad game," Green said about Sanders. "But you don’t get a lot of reps. You’re a young quarterback, you get thrown into a situation like that. I love the way that he responded."

Specifically, Sanders completed 4-of-16 passes for 47 yards with no touchdowns, one interception and two sacks taken in the second half of the Baltimore game after then-starter Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion. Sanders also should've had at least one other pass picked off versus the Ravens.

Last week was the first time that Sanders received real first-team practice reps during the season. Gabriel had gone 1-5 across six starts, but that was before Sanders connected on 11-of-20 pass attempts for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception versus Las Vegas.

Sanders is now on track to start when the 3-8 Browns host the San Francisco 49ers (8-4) this coming Sunday. Per Barry Werner of List Wire/USA Today, Green will be on the CBS call for that game.

Trent Green excited to learn more about Shedeur Sanders

"You have to have mental toughness to be able to do that," Green added about Sanders. "You’re in a tough environment. You’re trying to get a win. There’s a lot of pressure that comes from the name on the back of your jersey, and the fact that there’s so much attention around him as a player. He was able to handle all that and got the win. I’m looking forward to talking to him this week, study more tape on him and learn more about him. And he’s got a San Francisco team that’s coming in there."

As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Browns as 5.5-point underdogs against the 49ers. San Francisco earned a 20-9 win over the Carolina Panthers on Monday night.
