Alex Golesh speaks out after 'untrue' report that he was taking Arkansas job

On Wednesday, a report from an Arkansas radio host appeared to make it sound like South Florida head coach Alex Golesh was going to be the next head coach at the University of Arkansas

But with no official announcement by Saturday and Golesh's name now being floated around as a potential replacement for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss if Kiffin leaves, Golesh expressed his thoughts on the report after USF's 52-3 win over Rice on Saturday.

Alex Golesh explains his thoughts

"I told our team on Wednesday night when all that stuff came out, that all I ask is for an opportunity to finish the season the right way," Golesh said in his post-game news conference. "I've not had the opportunity to process any of it."

Golesh seemed to be somewhat frustrated by the report, which comes in the midst of his best season so far at USF.

"When you have success in this profession, everyone tries to move you along," Golesh said. "I get it, I understand it. I apologized t our guys on Wednesday night, I apologized to them again tonight, that the last thing I would ever want to be would be a distraction to our team."

"It was nothing that I put out there," Golesh said of the report. "It wasn't true. I told them that I didn't put it out and it wasn't true. And it wasn't true. I asked for some time after we win this game to process everything that's going on."

With the potential domino of Kiffin and Ole Miss still waiting to fall, Arkansas could be left waiting to see if there is still any chance of getting Golesh to Fayetteville. If not, the Razorbacks' coaching search could take an unexpected turn after it looked like it was finally coming to a close.
