Matthew Stafford breaks record previously held by Tom Brady

There are a few near certainties in life, one of them being that when the Los Angeles Rams offense is in the red zone, quarterback Matthew Stafford will throw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Davante Adams.

On Sunday, Stafford did just that when he hit Adams for a four-yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring against the Carolina Panthers. His 31st touchdown pass of the season, the most in the NFL, was also a record-breaking throw.

The scoring play was Stafford's 28th consecutive touchdown pass without an interception. This surpassed the NFL record of 27 consecutive touchdown passes without an interception set by future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady in 2010.

The 37-year-old quarterback came into the 2025 season with a back issue that raised doubts about his future in the league, but now Stafford is an MVP favorite. His connection with Adams has also rejuvenated the veteran receiver's career, as he leads all other wideouts in touchdowns (14).

Matthew Stafford moved up multiple all-time charts

Ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, Stafford's 2,830 passing yards were the sixth most among quarterbacks this year. In the first half, Stafford recorded 167 yards, giving him 62,806 passing yards total in his 17-year career. Stafford surpassed another great quarterback in Matt Ryan (62,792) for the eighth-most passing yards all-time.

Still, all good things must come to an end, as Stafford's interception-less streak was quickly broken with two back-to-back interceptions in the first half. Stafford hadn't thrown an interception since Week 3, and he'd only thrown two this year, but regression comes for everyone.

The first interception came as a shock, as Stafford was poised to increase his new NFL record of consecutive touchdown passes, but instead, he threw a pick in the end zone. On the following drive, Stafford threw the 31st pick-six of his career. According to NFL senior researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming, Stafford is now one pick-six behind Brett Favre for the most in NFL history.

Despite the shocking turn of events for the potential MVP, Stafford found his favorite target to regain the lead late in the first half. Adams made his 14th touchdown reception of the season with another short red zone touchdown pass from Stafford.

With his two touchdown receptions in the first half, Adams has four games in 2025 with two or more receiving touchdowns, the most in the NFL. Despite ranking just 34th in receptions (48) and 27th in receiving yards (631), Adams' reliability to catch the ball where it counts shows why the 32-year-old is one of the best to ever line up at wide receiver.

No matter what happens, the Rams can count on Stafford and Adams to find each other in the red zone and keep the team in every game.
