Luka Doncic was one-half of history on Sunday night as the Lakers beat the Pelicans, 133-121. With LeBron James out of the lineup, Austin Reaves stepped up and became Doncic's co-star.
The dynamic duo of Doncic and Reaves combined to score 67 points on the night, making their recent hot streak together special and a rarity throughout NBA history.
Doncic, who had 34 points, and Reaves, who posted 33 of his own, became just the fourth duo to each score 30 points in three straight games in the last 50 years. Doncic also added 12 rebounds for the double-double and seven assists as well. Reaves had five boards and eight assists.
Doncic and Reaves' names can now be placed next to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard from their time as teammates on the Bucks, Monte Ellis and Corey Maggette with the Warriors in 2010 and George Gervin and Mike Mitchell from the 1984 Spurs.

Before Sunday, Doncic scored 35 against the Mavericks, his former team, on Friday and 43 while battling the Clippers on Nov. 25. Doncic's personal scoring streak actually extends beyond his combined effort with Reaves.
To further support his early season MVP case, Doncic has reached at least 30 points in seven straight games, with two 40-point performances mixed in. The 26-year-old five-time NBA All-Star is now averaging 35.1 points per game at the start of his first full season with the Lakers. He's also averaging 8.7 rebounds and 9.2 assists while shooting 47.1 percent from the field.
As for Reaves, he continues to prove his worth as a budding star in the league. The undrafted guard holds averages of 28.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists, numbers that would equate to career-highs if maintained throughout the entire season.
Reaves' recent scoring tear has been half of his 30-point games this season, too. He has six in total, including a 51-point clinic at Sacramento on Oct. 26 and a 41-point outing against Portland the next night. Needless to say, Reaves has been a steady scoring machine as the Lakers' second option behind Doncic so far this season, with or without James available.
