Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders acknowledged that it "takes time" to build chemistry with teammates after he and veteran wide receiver Jerry Jeudy were spotted having what seemed to be a heated exchange on the sideline during the club's 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated he didn't lose sleep over the Sanders-Jeudy incident.
"Football is an emotional sport, and certainly when you’re a family like we are, you can have your disagreements," Stefanski explained, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Sometimes they’re for everybody to see. Sometimes it’s behind closed doors. But like a family, we move on, we talk about it, so not worried about it."
In the first quarter of the Week 13 game, Sanders missed Jeudy on a deep pass that could have resulted in an early go-ahead touchdown. Jeudy ultimately caught three of four targets for 26 yards against the 49ers.
"That’s nothing new in football," Stefanski added. "When you have plays that you see things, and you want to talk through it, those come up every single game, truly. And sometimes it can be two offensive linemen who saw a play a little bit differently, and you’ve got to look at the tape and get on the same page. So that’s all it is."
Stefanski previously confirmed that Sanders will start when Cleveland hosts the Tennessee Titans (1-11) on Dec. 7. However, it sounds like there is at least a chance that Stefanski could eventually turn back to former starter and fellow rookie signal-caller Dillon Gabriel.
Gabriel went 1-5 as Cleveland's QB1 and hasn't made a start since he suffered a concussion on Nov. 16. The Browns are 1-1 with Sanders serving as their starter.
"I’m just dealing with our football team week to week, but I’m pleased with his progress," Stefanski said about Sanders. "He wants to continue to get better and better, and that’s the right attitude to have, and that’s why we’ll continue to work."
Versus San Francisco, Sanders completed 16-of-25 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Sanders-led Browns as 4.5-point home favorites against the Titans.
