It’s currently viewed as likely that #Chargers starting running back Omarion Hampton, who has missed the last seven games with an ankle injury, will be able return to action and play next Monday when the team faces the #Eagles, sources tell @CBSSports https://t.co/8jiaV72JR4 pic.twitter.com/JNFeLMo624
Hampton has missed the last seven games with an ankle injury suffered in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders. The first-round selection out of North Carolina had taken over the starting job earlier in the season after starting running back Najee Harris was lost for the year due to a torn Achilles injury. Hampton was just starting to heat up before going down with the injury of his own. In Week 4 against the New York Giants, he totaled 128 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries, averaging a whopping 10.67 yards per run, flashing his huge upside.
His return comes at a pivotal time for the Chargers, who at 8-4 are in serious playoff contention and are looking towards a deep postseason run. Hampton's return pushes Kimani Vidal, who has filled in nicely as a starter and is coming off an impressive performance against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he totaled 126 yards and a touchdown, back to backup duty. Hampton may be eased back into action after the serious injury, which will call on Vidal to still carry some of the load.
Nevertheless, there is no denying Hampton's talent and can make all the difference in providing the type of spark the Chargers are looking for as they look towards the final stretch of the season and try to make a push towards the playoffs.
