Wednesday night was a historic performance all around for the No. 10 Iowa State Cyclones in a 132-68 rout over Alcorn State.
A win over the 1-9 Braves from the SWAC would not typically generate a lot of attention, given the mismatch on the court.
However, a 132-point outburst and multiple program records are more than enough to do so and should not go unnoticed, as a team once known for its stout defense, not that long ago, has now scored at least 78 points in all eight of its games.
Not only were the 132 points a school record for the Cyclones (8-0), but they shot 46-of-65 (71%) from the floor and a ridiculous 22-of-30 (73%) from long range. Iowa State eclipsed its previous three-point record with its 19th of the game on this corner trey from forward Milan Momcilovic, which extended the Cyclones' lead to 117-51 with under six minutes to play.

Forward Joshua Jefferson scored Iowa State's first six points and 13 of the team's opening 17 points as part of his 24-point, 10-assist performance on 10-of-13 shooting. He was one of three players to score more than 20 points on the night, joining Momcilovic (27 points, 8-of-9 3PT) and freshman guard Jamarion Batemon (26 points, 7-of-10 3PT).
According to The Field of 68, Iowa State, which led by as many as 66, had a win probability of 99.5% or higher the entire game.

Considering the Cyclones led 65-28 at the break, that should not come as a huge surprise. At least Alcorn State can say it led this game 7-2 at one point before the Cyclones completely ran away with the win.
In Iowa State's most recent win, a 95-64 drubbing of Syracuse, the Cyclones put up 60 points in the second half. That was their most under head coach T.J. Otzelberger, only to be surpassed by their point total in each half on Wednesday.
While the win over Alcorn State is by no means a quality win, Iowa State already owns wins over a 14th-ranked St. John's team and a Syracuse squad that just took down No. 13 Tennessee in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Tuesday night.
Iowa State entered Wednesday scoring the 25th-most points per game in the country (91.1 PPG), which will clearly improve for the better after the 132-point outburst. Although not as dominant as years past, the Iowa State defense (65 PPG) was tied for 35th before the win over Alcorn State, so it has not lost its edge on that side of the ball either.
A road trip to No. 1 Purdue on Saturday and an in-state rivalry game against Iowa on Dec. 11 will be two more tests for Iowa State as it inches closer to Big 12 play. However, this team appears to have the firepower on both ends of the floor to contend with any team in the country.
The Boilermakers will certainly be the toughest task of the season so far for the Cyclones, but if the efficient shooting carries over, don't be surprised if they are in contention late in that game.
