Dodgers bring back World Series hero on a one-year deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off their second straight World Series championship and are beginning the trek to a three-peat.

In their mission to become the first team to three-peat since the New York Yankees (1998-2000), the Dodgers are bringing back World Series hero Miguel Rojas to help in those efforts.

According to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of El Extrabase, it's a one-year deal worth $5.5 million and will be the final season of Rojas’ career in baseball as an active player. He will continue with the Dodgers beyond next season as a member of their player-development department.

In four seasons with the Dodgers, Rojas (soon to be 37) has batted .248 and had an OPS of .656 in 426 games.

Miguel Rojas adds value to the Dodgers on and off the field

Although Rojas is not a big name, he is one of the Dodgers' “glue” guys who brings everyone together in the clubhouse. After the Dodgers won their second straight World Series, manager Dave Roberts called Rojas a “Dodgers legend” while giving him a big bear hug. Rojas had made a game-saving defensive play in Game 7.

“Talking about leaving it every single ounce of your body and being hard and so on the field. This what this guy did, Dodgers legend,” Roberts said.

Rojas’ defense made up for his miserable performance at the plate, batting .200 in 10 at-bats (11 plate appearances) in three World Series games.

However, Rojas did provide the Dodgers with a legendary moment by hitting a game-tying home run off Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman in the top of the ninth inning.

Rojas is unlikely to be named an All-Star or win a Gold Glove, but he will finish his career with the team that helped him have a resurgence — and could become a three-time champion.
