The Milwaukee Bucks may have dodged a bullet with Giannis Antetokounmpo's no-contact injury. However, that doesn't mean they're in the clear with their superstar player.
ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst revealed that the Greek Freak asked to be traded before the start of the season. With the team struggling mightily this year, that sounds like a realistic possibility.
However, it seems like not everybody will have a shot at him. Per Windhorst, the Bucks will only consider Antetokounmpo's preferred destinations.
"It'll be Giannis instructing the Bucks where he wants to be traded and the Bucks trying to make the best possible deal with that team," Windhorst said on NBA Today. "You can put whatever verbiage. [in the summer] he basically said 'I want to be a Knick.'"
It's not very common to see NBA teams do right by their players when it doesn't align with their interests. Antetokounmpo doesn't have a no-trade clause, so the Bucks can technically send him to whichever team makes the most compelling offer, regardless of the star's preferences.
That's to say that the Bucks need to get an absolute haul for the best player in franchise history. They can't afford to have him leave for spare parts, and they will need to milk his trade value until the last drop.
For context, the Brooklyn Nets got Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, a 2028 first-round pick swap and four first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029) for Kevin Durant. Antetokounmpo is six years younger than Durant, and taking anything less than that would be a disservice to the organization.
