One of the most-discussed NFL-related topics of the week involved angry Pittsburgh Steelers fans repeatedly booing the team and chanting for head coach Mike Tomlin to be fired during the club's 26-7 home loss to the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 30.
Earlier this week, Steelers rookie linebacker Jack Sawyer said he thought it was "bull—" that people chanted against Tomlin at Acrisure Stadium. During the latest edition of his podcast, Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz offered a different reaction to what he heard in Week 13.
"We were up in the game," Kuntz explained, per Josh Carney of Steelers Depot. "...We got booed. We deserve to get booed."
The Steelers held a 7-3 lead early in the third quarter of the Buffalo game when Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers took a crunching hit that resulted in the future Hall of Famer losing control of the ball. Christian Benford ultimately tallied a scoop-and-score to give Buffalo a 10-7 advantage, and the visitors then never looked back.
Meanwhile, the Steelers dropped their fifth game in seven tries to fall to 6-6. Numerous reports have since insisted that it would be a "major surprise" if Pittsburgh were to fire Tomlin in January, but it's unclear if the situation could change before Week 18 concludes.
"That was the worst I've ever felt the stadium," Kuntz added. "In their postgame pressers, I know [tight end Pat Freiermuth] said they deserve to boo us. Mike T said they deserve to boo. They deserve to chant. So, they're right. What are we gonna do? They come to watch us entertain them and play good football and win. They don't come to watch us play bad football and lose. So they pay their way there, they have every right to boo. So it sucks. S— atmosphere in the locker room, obviously."
Kuntz and Co. will have a chance to redeem themselves when the Steelers play at the rival Baltimore Ravens (6-6) this Sunday to determine which team will begin next week as the first-place club in the AFC North. In Week 15, the Steelers will host the Miami Dolphins (5-7) for a "Monday Night Football" showdown on Dec. 15. One can only imagine what the atmosphere will be like inside Acrisure Stadium that evening if Pittsburgh leaves Baltimore with a record of 6-7.
