Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy recorded a video Saturday night that started as a defense of Michigan's 9-3 season and turned into a full attack on Ohio State.
The Michigan alum, who helped finance quarterback Bryce Underwood's transfer from LSU last year with roughly $3 million in NIL contributions, acknowledged the Wolverines had a down year but spent most of his time going after the Buckeyes for failing to win a Big Ten title since 2020.
Portnoy went as far as calling Ohio State coach Ryan Day gutless and referencing a missed field goal in Saturday night's Big Ten Championship Game against Indiana, which the Buckeyes lost 13-10.
The video, posted to Portnoy's social media, came minutes after Ohio State fell to Indiana in Indianapolis. The loss ended the Buckeyes' 16-game winning streak and denied them their first conference title in five years despite winning the national championship last season.

I actually feel bad for Ohio State fans because deep down they know if you don’t win the Big 10 you can’t be considered great. pic.twitter.com/o0wYL0v1Kk

Michigan went 0-3 against ranked opponents this season, losing at Oklahoma in September, falling at home to Indiana in November, and getting shut out by Ohio State to close the regular season.
The video leaned heavily on Portnoy's belief that conference championships still matter more than College Football Playoff participation.
He pointed to Michigan's 2023 national championship run, which included an undefeated regular season and a Big Ten title, as the right way to win at the highest level.
Ohio State won the national championship last season but has not won a Big Ten title since beating Northwestern 22-10 in the 2020 conference championship game, which was played during the COVID-shortened season.
"All right, all right. Listen, I know, I can't be reppin' in too much because we didn't have a good year. We're 9-3 but here's the thing about The Block M and I think it's the same thing for Ohio State," Portnoy said. "We don't play second place in the conference, third place in the conference. When Michigan wins a national championship, we do it the real way. We go undefeated, we win The Big Ten championship, we have a perfect season."
Portnoy continued his critique by calling out Day specifically, referencing the coach's record in big games and the pressure he faces every season.
The Barstool founder mentioned what he called Day's true colors showing up in crucial moments, pointing to the missed field goal as another example of Ohio State failing to finish when it matters most.
"I have said it this whole season: pressure. Michigan is going to do it. We weren't good, but if anybody could put an ounce pressure on them...What did I say? Ryan Day's true colors would come out in fourth. 10-yard field goal yanks at like 30 wide. It's the same team. They just, when the chips are down, they have no guts."
The Wolverines will learn their bowl destination when the College Football Playoff committee releases its final rankings and bowl assignments.
