How NFL Films motivated Titans during upset win over Browns

Members of the NFL's media crew at Huntington Bank Field in downtown Cleveland on Sunday likely hoped to document Cleveland Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett's pursuit of the single-season sack record.

While Garrett did record one sack, that media crew and others in the stadium ultimately witnessed the lowly Tennessee Titans pick up an upset 31-29 win over Cleveland that improved the Titans to 2-11 on the season. Following the victory, Titans left guard Peter Skoronski made it known that he and other Tennessee players didn't want to be part of history.

Titans wanted to make things difficult for Myles Garrett

"I was not wanting to be on any NFL Films legendary tape of him breaking the record," Skoronski said about Garrett, per Irie Harris of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I can picture Michael Strahan sacking Brett Favre to get the record. So I was like, 'I cannot. We cannot do that.'"

Garrett ended the weekend with 20 sacks on the season. He's now 2.5 sacks away from tying the official record (22.5) and 3.5 sacks away from breaking the unofficial (23) record.

The Browns have four more games on their schedule.

"(Garrett’s) one of one, bro," left tackle Dan Moore Jr. said after the Titans surrendered just one sack to the league's best player at his position on Sunday. "Just the way he can bend his power, the way he can run the edge at 275 (pounds). No one else like it."

Myles Garrett sends message to Browns amid lost season

Meanwhile, the Browns fell to 3-10 amid what will go down as their fourth losing season in five years. Some think Garrett could request a trade for the second straight offseason even though he signed a four-year, $160M contract extension that included $123.5M guaranteed this past March.

Following Sunday's loss, he was asked what message he had for his teammates with the Browns eliminated from playoff contention.

"Same thing I always tell them – prepare to win," Garrett said, per the Browns' website. "Prepare, work hard, don’t change anything about…from your focus, your preparation, your routine, from the beginning of the year to now. This is setting us up for the rest of the year and next year. How we choose to handle these games is defining not only our team, but us as men."

The Browns next play at the 9-4 Chicago Bears on Dec. 14. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Cleveland as a seven-point underdog for that game.
