Former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday evening, barely a few hours after he was let go by the university for cause.
Moore was detained by officers from the Saline Police Department and handed over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation.
The detention was first reported by ESPN’s Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel around 7:30 p.m. ET. Moore had been fired earlier that day by Michigan, announced by the university itself, after an investigation revealed he was involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with a staff member.
No charges have been filed as yet, and no information has been given out regarding what led to the arrest and what charges Moore could be facing.
The Saline Police Department released a short statement verifying their involvement.
“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore. Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”

This came after an investigation by the university about an inappropriate relationship between staff members.
Athletic director Warde Manuel announced the termination of Moore's contract on Wednesday in a statement that indicated it was for cause.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," Manuel said. "After a University investigation, there was credible evidence that Coach Moore had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This is a violation of University policy, and U-M has a zero tolerance policy regarding such matters."
The for-cause firing saves Michigan approximately $14 million that would have been paid to Moore on his contract. Moore had two years left on a five-year contract.
Associate head coach of Michigan, Biff Poggi, has been named interim coach and will guide the Wolverines in their Citrus Bowl game against Texas on Dec. 31.
Moore ended up with an 18-8 record with Michigan. The program finished the season 9-3 this year and 8-5 in 2024, failing to make the College Football Playoff both times.
The Michigan players received an emergency meeting of the team, where they were informed about the firing of Moore.
