Love, actually: Jazz veteran shoots down Grizzlies

Kevin Love doesn't play a lot of minutes for the Utah Jazz. Friday, the 37-year-old turned back the block and reminded the world he's an NBA champion and Hall of Famer.

The veteran forward made three straight three-point shots at the end of the third quarter to give his Utah Jazz a lead they'd never relinquish as they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 130-126.

Kevin Love did it all for the Jazz

Love's 20 points were his biggest point total of the season, not coincidentally happening as he played a season-high 20 minutes. He grabbed eight rebounds, shot 4-of-10 from deep and even got a steal. Love is 38th all-time in three-pointers, and showed off that excellent shooting form in a victory that spoiled Ja Morant's return for Memphis.

For his entire career, Love has been able to shoot from deep and get boards. That's exactly what he did Friday night, outplaying the younger and better-compensated Jaren Jackson, Jr., who scored 12 points, missed all three of his shots beyond the arc and grabbed only five rebounds in seven more minutes than Love.

The crucial stretch happened with 1:31 to go in the third. Love hit a three, Brice Sensabaugh got a steal, and Love hit another one, then Love delivered a third after a Jackson miss, all three shots assisted by Isaiah Collier.

Kevin Love got revenge on the Grizzlies

Love has history with the Grizzlies, who traded him for O.J. Mayo on draft night in 2008. He also has a history with Ja Morant, who delivered one of the most memorable missed dunks in NBA history over Love in 2019, which Love claims almost "ended my professional career."

Morant did it again Friday, again delivering an almost-poster on Love in the fourth quarter, and again throwing the ball off the rim. This time, it worked out in his favor when the ball whanged out to Jock Landale, who drained a three-pointer.

Ultimately, Love got revenge on everyone. On the Grizzlies for trading him 17 years ago, on Morant for trying to humiliate him with dunks not once but twice and on everyone who doubted he could help win basketball games in 2025. Love, actually, was all around the court in Memphis Friday night. Call it a Love fest.
