Oilers' Leon Draisaitl makes NHL history with 1,000th career point

Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl reached a major career milestone on Tuesday night when he assisted on Zach Hyman's first-period goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That assist was the 1,000th point of his NHL career in only his 824th regular-season game.

On its own that is an impressive accomplishment, and makes him just the 103rd player in league history to reach the 1,000-point mark.

It also came with a little bit of history.

While 102 players reached the mark before him, Draisaitl is the first and only player from Germany to record 1,000 points in the NHL. He had already established himself as the best German-born player in league history, and this only helps cement his status in that regard.

Along with the 1,000-point mark for his career, he also has a single-season goal-scoring crown, a scoring championship and an MVP award. Just about the only thing he has not done yet is win a Stanley Cup.
