Green Bay Packers star pass-rusher Micah Parsons suffered a season-ending torn ACL during Green Bay's 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.
Of course, Parsons joined the Packers when he was traded from the Dallas Cowboys to Green Bay in exchange for two first-round draft picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark back in August. During a Tuesday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the Parsons injury.
"I'm sad for Micah," Jones explained, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "That's quite a challenge. I wish him the very best on his recovery."
The relationship between Jones and Parsons deteriorated during a lengthy offseason contract saga earlier this year. Jones declined to negotiate with agent David Mulugheta throughout the summer before the Cowboys traded Parsons, and the 26-year-old ultimately received a four-year, $188M contract that included $136M guaranteed from the Packers.
According to ESPN, Parsons ended Week 15 tied for third in the league with 12.5 sacks on the season. It's now unknown when he will be cleared to resume playing in 2026.
As noted by an ESPN piece, retired wide receiver Michael Irvin suffered a torn ACL during his second NFL season. Irvin recovered from that setback and went on to become a three-time Super Bowl champion, a Cowboys legend and a Hall of Famer.
"Michael Irvin said when he had his big surgery during, I think, his second year with the Cowboys, he said he realized what football really did mean to him," Jones added during his comments about Parsons. "And he said the surgery really launched him into the best part of his career, because he got to feel what it might look like not to play again. ...Micah, I wish you the very best."
Meanwhile, the 9-4-1 Packers will attempt to hold onto a playoff spot during the early days of Parsons' recovery. Green Bay next plays at the Chicago Bears (10-4) this coming Saturday night in a battle for first place in the NFC North standings.
