Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was the subject of numerous rumors regarding his future earlier this fall, but he ultimately remained with the club through the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
For a piece published on Wednesday morning, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN suggested teams around the league will be calling the Eagles about Brown's services during the upcoming offseason.
"Several executives I spoke to believe the Eagles could look to move Brown, who's 28 and still has prime years left," Fowler wrote.
Fowler noted that complaints from Brown "must be taxing on Philadelphia's locker room, even if players understand the receiver's frustration due to the limitations of the Eagles' passing attack." In December 2024 Brown seemed to publicly criticize quarterback Jalen Hurts. Since then, Brown has repeatedly vented his frustrations regarding Philadelphia's offense and the number of targets he has seen during games.
ESPN stats show that Brown ended Week 15 leading the Eagles with 102 targets on the season. He's second on the team with 64 receptions, 840 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.
Of course, the Eagles ultimately overcame any supposed locker-room issues to win Super Bowl LIX last February. History could repeat itself this coming winter, but it appears that Brown and the Eagles may be headed toward a divorce.
"He would undoubtedly have a market," Fowler added about Brown. "He's due $50M in cash over the next two years, which is manageable for a WR1. The Eagles would absorb a $20M cap hit if he's traded before June 1, or they could save $7M on the cap by waiting until after June 1 to deal him. Either way, the Eagles have shown cap challenges won't deter them (see: the Carson Wentz trade). And it seems that Brown would welcome a new passing game at this point."
For now, Brown will try to help the Eagles claim the division title when they play at the Washington Commanders (4-10) in Week 16. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Philadelphia as a 6.5-point road favorite for that game.
